内容記述 | In this paper the researcher sought to evaluate the changes that occurred in the complexity, accuracy and fluency of the oral production of a female first-year Japanese university student who spent nine months on a Study Abroad(SA)program in Sydney, Australia. He then sought to assess how the observed changes compared with those discussed in current existing SA literature. His results largely reflected the findings in the literature with an increase in natural exposure to the L2 through an SA experience seeming to contribute more to fluency and naturalness of speech through a higher speech rate, fewer disfluencies and greater use of native-like filled pauses and colloquial non-pause fillers. Changes in overall accuracy and complexity of speech, while evident, were less pronounced although AS-unit analysis did reveal improvements in accuracy in smaller, less complex AS-units. |
