A body of research already exists regarding “the advantages of utilizing the designer function as a linchpin in integrating or coordinating product development operations”. However, existing research has not sufficiently addressed questions such as: “How does a designer-led product development process actually work?” and “What are the organizational structure and management considerations necessary for a designer-led product development process to work effectively?” This study attempted to identify the organizational and management factors underlying an effective designer-led product development using an example of a company that gives designers the responsibility to lead the integration of its product development. In this study, the four main findings obtained from the case are as follows: First, the designer-led product development starts on a different footing from conventional product manager systems, which begin with technology and the markets. The second finding is what assures the effective implementation of a designer-led product development process is the designer’s heightened sense of autonomy. The third finding is that a consistent design-oriented product development process from start to end leads to a more effective designer-led product development process. 内容記述 | 本稿の目的は,デザイナー主導による製品開発プロセスを明らかにするとともに,デザイナー主導による製品開発プロセスを効果的に実行するための組織要因やマネジメント上の要件を明らかにすることである.既存研究では「デザイナーを製品開発活動を統合・調整する主体として機能させる有用性」が指摘されてきたが,それらは概念的な議論に留まっているとともに,デザイナー主導による製品開発プロセスが,具体的にどのような組織体制のもと,どのように実行されるのか,そして,このようなプロセスをより効果的に実行するうえで,どのような組織要因やマネジメント上の要件が重要となるのか,が十分解明されていない.本稿では,アイリスオーヤマ株式会社の事例分析を通じて,デザイナー主導による製品開発プロセスの実態を明らかにするとともに,このようなプロセスを効果的に実行するための組織的要因として,デザイナーの独立性・主体性,デザインを中心とした首尾一貫した製品開発プロセス,デザイナーのマルチスキル化などの要因を導出した.
