内容記述 | One of the most important developments in the process of the transformation of Buddhism from its “Indian” character to “East Asian” during its long period of assimilation was the composition of new scriptures on East Asian soil. While many of the Buddhist writings that were produced in East Asia were of clearly stated East Asian provenance, a large body of influential works were written under the guise of being original Indian scriptures, primarily for the purpose of increasing their chances of recognition and acceptance. This paper examines the variety of causes which led to the composition of such scriptures and the role that such texts played in the development of a new “Sinified” strain of Buddhism. | |||||||||
