The literal meaning of nanka is \"some, any, something, anything.\" However, in junior college students' informal conversation, it indicates turn initiator, filler, and softener, in addition to the original meaning. Surprisingly nanka appears very frequently in their conversation; initially, medially, and finally, and also nanka with stress or unstressed shows different usage.
