In recent years, research on the management of Chinese firms has increased rapidly, based on which even a new management theory called “C theory” seems to grow. This paper takes Haier Group as the representative sample of Chinese firms to examine the development process of its global competitiveness. After the introduction of research background, the authors confirm the current level of global competitiveness that Haier Group has achieved and then explain its unique management system named “Win-win Model of Individual-Goal Combination”. Then the authors examine Haier Group’s process of development and the changes in business strategies from its foundation to the present day, with a focus on the evolution of management system and organizational capabilities. Moreover, the authors make comparison to Panasonic Corporation in corporate culture and business portfolio in order to further clarify the characteristics of Haier Group.
